About the presenter

Barbara Watson (PhD)

Barbara is a qualified early childhood and primary teacher who’s been right where you are — she’s even owned and managed her own ECE centres.

She spent seven years on the EC Professional Support team at the Faculty of Education, building strong connections with the University of Auckland. During that time, Barbara facilitated all kinds of workshops and programmes for ECE services and even lectured on a range of ECE papers.

Passionate about helping teachers bridge the gap between theory and practice, Barbara has dedicated her study and work to supporting others in their professional growth. Her Master’s thesis explored leadership and adult education, while her PhD focused on how induction and mentoring programmes play out in education and care services.

These days, Barbara works alongside centre leaders as a mentor, coach, and external appraiser, helping them grow their leadership skills and build strong, thriving teams.
