Neurodiversity

This workshop aims to deepen participants' understanding of noticing, recognising, and responding to neurodiversity by positively reframing children's actions and behaviours. We will emphasise the role of kaiako in shaping early learning experiences and environments that value diverse neurological abilities, ensuring that all children have access to enriching experiences with their peers. Max will also introduce participants to the Blooming Framework as a model to support your practice.

About the presenters

 Julie Houghton-Katipa

Julie is a Lecturer at Massey University’s Institute of Education with a background in Early Childhood Education and Learning Support. She previously held a national specialist lead role at the Ministry of Education in Early Childhood Learning Support and has led project initiatives such as He Māpuna te Tamaiti. Julie coordinates the early intervention endorsement and teaches into the Masters Professional Inquiry paper in the Specialist Teaching Post-Graduate Programme. Her research centres on children’s social-emotional learning, bicultural practice, and inclusive, high-quality early childhood education.
About the presenters

Maximilliano Pierret

Maximiliano is a lecturer in Neurodiversity and Inclusive Education at Massey University, teaching in the Specialist Teaching Programme and Master’s in Inclusive Education. With nearly 15 years of experience in both mainstream and special education, his work is deeply rooted in education.
Personally, Maximiliano is the father of two children, one with Down Syndrome and another diagnosed with multiple conditions, while also showing giftedness.
He has developed an interprofessional framework for neurodiversity and inclusive education, which is now used in schools and early childhood settings across Aotearoa. His passion is shifting perceptions of neurodiversity from a deficit-based model to a more inclusive and celebratory approach.

What is the ECC Learning Centre?

Your ECC Learning Centre is where you can find a huge range of professsional learning content delivered by the ECC. This is hosted by ECE Learning Unlimited. You can use one login to access all of your professional learning in one place. 

Can I share my login? 

Your ECELU login is designed for you as a professional learning portfolio. As you progress through your learning you will earn certificates along the way and your learning hours will be recorded. If you need access for others in your centre or organization please contact us to make sure they have all the access they need. 

How do I get the link to a live session? 

No need to wait for any zoom links, as soon as you register you can access your learning within the site. Login a few minutes before, find your session in ECC Live Events and click "Join the live session". Any recorded sessions can be accessed 24/7 from any device. Make sure you are logged in using the email address registered. We will always send a reminder email before the live session to all those registered, with a link to the event in the ECC Learning Centre

Do I need to pay for webinars and workshops? 

There are some free options available, if there is a charge it will be clear on the overview page what the cost is. ECC Members get discount on both ECC and ECELU content. Make sure you are signed in and look for the ECC Member price on the overview page. 

How do I register for someone else?

If you would like to register for someone else, you will need to send through an order form. Each attendee will need a separate registration using a different email address. We are happy to register multiple attendees for you and invoice you all together. 

Is ECELU Members Club included in my ECC Membership?

ECELU Members Club is available to ECC members at a discounted price. ECELU Members Club is a subscription that includes all webinars, courses and resources from ECELU. This is separate to your ECC Membership. Check it out here
