Preparing for an ERO visit can create mixed feelings

Whether your centre feels confident and prepared, somewhat ready, or wishing for a magic wand. How you prepare for your next ERO review directly impacts your Governance, Leadership, the team and the learning outcomes of your children to support the review process.

Presented By

Bev Trim and Katina Beauchamp

Workshop Duration

Approximately 90 minutes
10am - 11:30am, Tuesday 11 November

Who is this workshop for?

ECE Centre Managers and Curriculum Leads

What will you learn?

This unique, interactive workshop, led by Bev Trim, a highly experienced ECE Professional Development mentor, will demystify the process and help you turn preparation into opportunity for growth. Guided by Katina Beauchamp, in a dynamic Q&A format, you will explore how you could refine strategies, build useful evidence, and align meaningful practices with ERO’s expectations.

Together we will:

  • begin with an honest look at readiness: how prepared is your centre, informed by your values, principles, and local community? ERO resources, jargon & the review process is also outlined.
  • dive into the Improvement Framework - ERO’s key tool for evaluation - and explore how it connects to Te Whāriki’s Learning Outcomes.
  • consider practical strategies for documenting children’s learning progression, and how to show evidence that is authentic, time-efficient, and meaningful for your team and families.
  • Use literacy as a practical case study, using tools like internal evaluation and strategic planning with specific suggestions can help you to strengthen your focus and provide you with a roadmap.

No matter where you are on the preparedness spectrum, you’ll walk away with practical insights and the confidence to approach your next ERO visit with clarity and purpose. Don’t wait for the notification from ERO to start preparing, get ahead and sharpen your strategies by attending this essential workshop with Bev Trim and the Early Childhood Council.

About the presenters

Bev Trim

For the last 12 years I have been a Mentor providing Professional Development & have had the privilege of supporting Owners, Managers & teachers to develop what they provide children & families.
It is these long-term working relationships combined with my prior teaching & lecturing experience that continues to inspire me to professionally progress how I operate in our ever-changing ECE world.
The on-going direct & indirect contact I have experienced with ERO reminds me of the importance of us all striving to ‘Work Smarter & Not Harder’. I find the large majority of the time adults are already working hard so to me it is about adapting how we operate & how can we ensure evidence is time efficient & useful.
I continue to be motivated to focus on what is truly beneficial to children & how as ECE professionals we can develop & strengthen what we do in a way that creates a shared understanding for when ERO visits.
