The environment is often referred to as the third teacher. Given that this is the case, we need to ensure that it is teaching what we want it to be teaching.
This workshop will:
- Examine how to create an environment that reflects and supports the identified learning priorities of your centre.
- Look at how your indoor and outdoor environments support the ideals expressed in your philosophy.
- Support the identification of strategies to better align your environment with the identified priorities for children’s learning.
Participants will develop an understanding of the implications of the physical environment on teaching and learning . Content will enable participants to critically examine their centre philosophy, layout and aesthetic to determine whether there is alignment.

Bridgit has been a professional learning facilitator and mentor since 2008, previously with EC Professional Support at the University of Auckland. She believes effective leadership and ongoing professional learning are key to improving quality in early childhood education.
Bridgit completed her Masters degree in early 2015, looking specifically at the induction and mentoring of ECE teachers. Her professional interests include effective leadership and communication, inclusive teaching practice, intentional teaching and implementing authentic curriculum.
